Kelantan, home for the olds

I born and grown up in Kelantan as well as all my siblings. Of course we are Kelantanese! but do not reside in Kelantan. One by one, we have migrated out from Kelantan to work for living, leaving our (old) parents remain in the hometown.

My family is not the only one facing such situation. My cousins also migrated out from Kelantan as well as my childhood friends, all because of the same reason, for work, leaving their old parents. Most of grown up sons and daughters of families left the state for jobs.

It is a reality now that my hometown is the home for the olds. The school leavers (after SPM / STPM) move out from Kelantan to go to Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Johor Bahru and Penang for jobs. Then, they get married with people who also work there. Later, they buy house and reside there with their new young families. To them, Kelantan is only a hometown where they go back to visit their parents generally during hari raya.

Who are living in my hometown at present? Obviously the answer is the old, retired, weak and poor health citizens of which their motivation to have a better social-economy standard is no more. It is a very simple rule for less demand is less supply and it is a bad sign for economic activities. Therefore, we can say.."Oh! no wonder lah Kelantan is like that".

What will happen in next 10 years? The current old generation will be gone while the young ones who have migrated away are unlikely to return considering their established careers and comfortable life in the present place where they are working.

I hope the present leaders of the state goverment are aware about this situation and the upcoming future. If they are not aware, we can also say.. "Oh no wonder lah Kelantan is like that".

I've been working in Johor for almost 10 years. Others may be longer. The only reason we are living in other states is the job for living. Yes, it is the job for living.

=> The state government retained their control for 18 years, but young generation keeps on migrating out because of the jobs for living.

=> The theme is "Membangun Bersama Islam", but young generation keeps on migrating out because of the jobs for living.

=> State leaders preach that Kelantan Government is good, but young generation keeps on migrating out because of the jobs for living.

As Kelantanese, I humbly request the state leaders to do something so that the young generation will have reasons to stay and return to reside in our beloved state.
