By the word "unity" I agree it is good. Because of unity our country became independent and we should, at the best of our ability to preserve the unity. Because of unity we have reached this far. Look at the countries around the world, what they have achieved without unity? They were destroyed by their own rage, unstability and warring among themselves.
Everyone knows Malaysia is a multi-racial country and every citizen knows that unity is imperative to Malaysian. We have Malay, Chinese, Indian and bumiputera from Sabah and Sarawak which generally practising differrent cultures and religions. In this composition, we are holding a "fragile" unity and what we do when holding fragile things? Even kids can answer that we should hold it carefully. In this composition, any demand for more by any party will affect the interest of other parties. Therefore, it is important for us to live in accordance with the National Constitution, the formula that is proven effective for our composition.
What threaten the unity? I can say power struggle for political control to rule the country is the main threat. Some politicians are playing with public emotion to gain support. They even play with racial sentiment and religion sensitivity that will create suspicions among the citizens. We even have politicians who go to other countries to cry for help and condemning that they were treated unfairly by the present government. Is he is a "negarawan"? What we gain from such acts? The fact is this person has failed to achieve his political ambition via the general election. Can't he just wait for next general election to re-contest? If he is the favourite, he would have won.
Other irresponsible politicians have launched and encouraged citizens to participate in illegal rallies. Are they educating the citizen to become more civilized? No they are not! They are actually teaching the public to violate the laws, cause instability and destroy the unity. These politicians will not help to educate citizens to be tactful in preserving our unity. My vote is not for them!
I believe that we can preserve our unity by practising the Rukun Negara. Many have forgotten about the national ambitions set by our leaders in the past, right after May 1969 tragedy, for our unity. These are the ambitions:
1) Achieving a more perfect unity amongst the whole of her society;
2) Preserving a democratic way of life;
3) Creating a just society where the prosperity of the country can be enjoyed together in a fair and equitable manner;
4-) Guaranteeing a liberal approach towards her rich and varied cultural traditions; and
5-) Building a progressive society that will make use of science and modern technology.
Do not destroy the unity that we once hold together carefully. It is not too late for us to continue concentrating the whole of our energy and efforts to achieve these national ambitions based on Rukun Negara principles:
BELIEF IN GOD
LOYALTY TO KING AND COUNTRY
THE SUPREMACY OF THE CONSTITUTION
THE RULE OF LAW
COURTESY AND MORALITY
